We will begin with a 15-minute phone consultation call to see if our working together would be a good fit for your goals.
If we want to begin therapy, we will then schedule your initial session. I will send you a link to your patient portal where you will be able to complete the paperwork electronically, upload your form of payment, and possibly take some notes about what goals or hopes you may have for our work together.
At your initial appointment we will talk about your story so far, what you have been experiencing and what you hope to see for yourself moving forward. We will collaborate to create your personalized treatment plan. Then we begin our care and the beautiful work that is therapy!
This differs from person to person or couple to couple. You and I will create a plan for your care together and I can offer a number of options depending on what care would best fit for you.
I have people who want to complete considerable work and progress in a short amount of time and may prefer what we call "intensives" where they meet for longer sessions or for more frequent care to progress faster (e.g., coming in for several-hour sessions multiple days in a row for a burst of work). This can be great for folks who want to accomplish a lot in short time.
For individual care, some folks prefer brief but regular care such a structured, evidence-based trauma treatment (e.g., prolonged exposure therapy, cognitive processing therapy), meeting once per week for 10-12 weeks. Others may want to do deep therapy work with a combination of narrative exploration, somatic and experiential exercises and want to begin a journey of long-term growth and self-investment.
Couples at times come in for support during a specific transition, or specific skills (e.g., improving communication skills). As such, their treatment may be very brief. Others want to go deeper, learn more about one another and their relationship, explore new communication skills as well as deepened understanding of their values together. Our care is collaborative and tailored to your goals and needs.
Currently, all of our therapy, consultation, coaching and assessment services are virtual or telehealth. We use HIPAA compliant platforms so that you can securely engage in care from the comfort of your own home. Some workshops are offered in person locally. Please feel free to check our workshops page or sign up for our newsletter to receive updates about those if you would ever like to join us for our in-person services.
For therapy sessions (30-85 minutes) you can cancel your appointment up to 24 hours before your scheduled therapy session without a fee. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment, you will be charged the full cost of your appointment.
For assessments and intensives where we may be blocking several hours or even most of a day aside for you, we can discuss an appropriate approach for late cancellations or no shows so that I am protected in setting aside that time for you, but you also are not responsible for the full cost of such an intensive amount of care not received. You will be informed of what this late cancellation or no show fee will be for your specific type of services before we officially book your time so that you can feel comfortable with expectations around that care and ensure this is something that works for you.

You can also check out the map below. My trainings, workshops, consultations and coaching services are not limited by location. Using Insurance
I get it. It's tough to be a working class person in this country and if at all possible, want to try to use insurance when they are paying so much for everything already. I do encourage you to check out the answer below for why I recommend paying privately or out-of-network approach for your care. Even as someone with insurance I pay out of pocket for my mental health care so that I can actually get the care I need in the way that is clinically beneficial for my needs. I explain more about why in the next FAQ.
That being said, if you are a Texas resident and would like to use insurance, I do work with another organization to offer in-network individual therapy services for those who have participating Aetna and United heath insurance plans. Please feel free to ask about these spots. We can complete an eligibility check to get an estimate of the costs of care if you were to use your insurance.
If my rates do not fit your needs, I completely understand. Some o lower cost care are listed on my Resources page. Feel free to check those out and if ever my clinic would feel like a good fit for your needs in the future, please don't hesitate to reach out at that time.
As a therapist committed to authentic, compassionate and effective care, I've decided to not accept insurance or Medicare directly. I do offer limited services that are in-network for Texas residents with Aetna or United, but am not directly paneled. I offer these currently through a third party. As such I am not able to offer any in-network care for people living outside of Texas or people with other insurance plans. If you'd like to learn more, please feel free to read on.
This decision stems from my desire to offer you a therapeutic experience that is truly personalized, evidence-based, and responsive to your unique needs. Therapy should be a healing journey, free from arbitrary restrictions. Unfortunately, insurance companies often impose limitations on the type and duration of care they deem "medically necessary," which can disrupt our work together and undermine the safety and consistency that are so important in trauma recovery. Insurance policies can also restrict our ability to craft a treatment plan that fully aligns with your personal goals and preferences.
By transitioning to only private-pay and out-of-network care, I can ensure that our therapeutic relationship remains grounded in trust, transparency, and predictability. This approach allows us to set a clear, agreed-upon fee for your care without the stress of unexpected charges, denied claims, or "clawbacks" that insurance companies might impose. I've found that insurance practices can create unnecessary stress for clients and pose significant challenges for providers. For instance, insurers have been known to retroactively deny coverage for previously approved sessions, leaving me with the need to pursue payment from clients long after services have been rendered. Such practices not only affect your care experience but also create financial uncertainty and strain for both of us. Choosing to work outside the constraints of insurance enables me to maintain a focus on your well-being (and honestly mine as well).
This decision reflects a commitment to fair and equitable care, free from the pressures and limitations imposed by insurance companies.
